Welding Techniques
Self-Fusion Laser Welding
- It leverages high-power laser beam to melt metal even vaporized,
- the molten metal liquid flows back and solidifies, thus the two metal parts can be welded together.
- This method of welding requires the two metal parts fit together well or have a minimum gap between them.
Laser Filling Welding
- Laser filling welding is to feed similar material wire simultaneously while welding. Laser beam melt wire and metal joints to fill the gap. This type of welding has better welding strength and can be welded when there is a gap between two parts.

1. Laser Power
There is a threshold value of laser energy density in laser welding. Below this value, only the surface of the workpiece will be melted, and the penetration depth is very shallow, once this value is reached or exceeded, metal vapor will be generated, which is a sign with the progress of stable deep penetration welding.1. 2. Welding Speed
The welding speed has a great influence on the penetration depth. Increasing the speed will make the penetration shallow, but if the speed is too low, the material will be over-melted and the workpiece will be welded through.
3. Focus Distance
There are two types of focus: positive defocus and negative defocus. If the focal is above the workpiece, it is positive focus, otherwise negative focus. The change of focus directly affects the width and depth of the welding.
4. Welding Width
If the diameter of the laser spot is too small, the laser is concentrated on the filler, and the heating of the base metal is insufficient. But If the spot is too large, laser power is not enough to melt wire to have a good welding.
5. Feeding Speed
If the wire feeding speed is too fast, wire will accumulate on the surface of the weld, which will affect the appearance. If the wire feeding speed is too slow, the surface of the weld will sink, and too little filling will affect the welding strength. Feeding speed need to match well with welding speed.
